Harnaaz Sandhu Brings Home Miss Universe Crown


The 21-year-old actress-model Harnaaz Sandhu from Punjab, representing India at the 70th Miss universe 2021, held in Eilat, Israel brought home the crown and made India proud after she beat contestants from 80 countries. Paraguay's Nadia Ferreira became the first runner-up and Lalela Mswane of South Africa secured the position for second-runner up. Sandhu was presented the crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico at the event which was live-streamed globally.

The model-actress was crowned Miss Universe India 2021 in October. Harnaaz started her beauty pageant journey with Times Fresh Face back in 2017. The 21-year-old diva is currently pursuing her Master degree in Public Administration. She holds multiple pagent title like Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, as well. She has also been starred in many Punjabi films like "Yaara Diyan Poo Baran" and "Bai Ji Kuttange".

                On being asked what she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressures they face, a composed Sandhu said, "the biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that's what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let's talk about more important things that's happening worldwide. The beauty made it to the top three after her powerful answer, calling for less talk & more action.  After winning the crown, the first thing an excited Sandhu said was "Chak De Phatte", which in Punjabi means words of encouragement ok "keep it up".

India had won this title 21 years ago when Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe in 2000. Before that, actress Sushmita Sen was given the title in 1994. Including Sandhu, so far only 3 Indians have bagged the title of Miss Universe. Sushmita Sen has penned a note of appreciation for Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu, calling her 'Har Hindustani ki naz'.
