Can It Be Serious For Climate Change ?
At the climate summit this year,
India has come up with multiple initiatives. However, one can observe the
absence of a South Asia initiative on climate change led by India. Despite
having a lot of commonalities, why South Asian discourse goes missing? It is
the least integrated region because of historical factors whose impact can be
witnessed in multi-regional forums such as SAARC, BIMSTEC, BBIN, SASEC, MGC.
One can be certain to
determine that only climate change can now unite South Asia despite failure of
co-operations of regional players due to various reasons. As Indian
subcontinent share the same geography, they also suffer the same problems together
as well. Because of adverse climate impact despite having lowest per capita
emissions in the regions which cause a huge population to become vulnerable to
it. It is essential for South Asia to collaborate and unite together for
bargaining block.
When New Delhi speaks of the need for climate justice, Global funding and climate adaptation technology transfer, India's voice only be strengthened multiple times if it speaks for South Asia as a whole. If India fails to speak for South Asia, It is losing an opportunity. Its neighbors are seeking help from other international partners. New Delhi has shown the path for the world in terms of fight against climate change. India must show its leadership to unite South Asia over climate change
